Current 2009-2010 Volunteer Opportunity Descriptions
This summary list is a collection of our anticipated volunteer opportunities. Other opportunities will likely come up as new ideas and projects are identified. The activities listed below each event are intended to highlight some of the help needed to run each event and is by no means all-inclusive. Some dates are approximate. If one or more events or activities interest you please sign up on the appropriate volunteer interest sheet(s) or talk to the coordinator listed or one of the PTO board members for more information. Many of these opportunities are also appropriate for students looking to fulfill community their service hour requirements.
September – Innisbrook Gift Wrap – Laura Buck
- Assist sellers with online order entry questions
- Sort orders into boxes for delivery to sellers
October – Entertainment Book – John Dignam
- Help sell books after mass(es)
- Package books for delivery to other sellers
October – Fall Clothing Drive – Ann Dignam
- Staff the collection site for 2hr shifts during the clothing drive, (one or two people at a time)
- Help load the truck for 1–2 hours at the end of the drive on Sunday (~15 people wanted)
- Pick up clothing and for toys in those unusual cases where drop off is not possible / practical
- Publicize clothing drive by various means.
- Collect clothing and toys for 2 hr shifts from Friday through Sunday, Oct 2–4
- Help load the truck Sunday at 2PM
(Coordinator for the Spring Clothing drive wanted)
December – Book Fair – Patty Kiernan
- Help set up Book Fair, Monday, Dec. 7th
- Volunteer for a 2-hour cashier shift during Book Fair hours
- Help plan and run Book fair Family Event
- Assist with breakdown and packing up of Book Fair on final day
January – Applebee's Flapjack Breakfast
- Sell tickets after mass(es), Greet & seat guests at Applebee's, Serve pancakes, bus tables
January – Catholic Schools Week – Joanne Kastberg
- Give tours of the school to prospective students & their parents
- Help organize/run Catholic Schools week activities
February – Yankee Candle – Danielle Thompson
Spring – Wine Tasting – Aracely Kuczel
Spring – Spring Clothing Drive – TBD
- Coordinator needed to run this event – schedule volunteers, publicize clothing drive, coordinate with vendor, collect clothing and toys for ~2 hr shifts throughout the drive, Help load the truck Sunday at 2PM
All year – School Library – Patty Kiernan
- Volunteer an hour or two a week to help re-shelve books and maintain organization
- Assist with setting up a Library Wish List on Amazon.com
- Help implement “Birthday Book” program
- Be a Library Mom/Dad, facilitating weekly library visits for one of the K–5th grade classes
All Year – PTO website support – John & Ann Dignam
- Updating the PTO website adding links and information as appropriate
All Year – Public Relations committee – Brigid Luzarraga
- Write press releases for school events
- Monitor local media for coverage of St. Joseph's and other local schools
- Write articles for newspaper and other publications
- Desktop publishing, photography and/or graphics arts
- Act as liaison to news organizations
All Year – Science Lab Project – John Dignam
- Solicit / collect equipment donations
- Grant writing
- Assembly of furniture
- Installation of equip as needed, Painting
