PTO
A Parent-Teacher Organization provides an effective channel of communication between parents and teachers for the benefit of the students and the whole community. Its main purposes are:
- to create mutual support and understanding between home and school, and thus bring about a total learning environment for students
- to provide a means for keeping parents informed of school activities, programs, etc., and if any, parent service requirement
- to assist the school in meeting its financial obligations, primarily through fund-raising activities
- to provide adult education programs.
The mission of the PTO is to bring the home and the school into a closer relationship so that parents and teachers may cooperate in the education of each child.
The PTO meets several times during the school year. Parents of all students (Preschool through Grade 8) are expected to be active members of the PTO.
Annual dues are collected at the beginning of the school year. The PTO assists in providing programs and enrichment in the school. Participation in PTO fund raising programs is considered part of a family’s financial obligations.
Activities
| Contests | Interschool and intraschool contests are offered throughout the school year. Contests can form a healthy spirit of competition and stimulate interest in various subject areas. |
| Class Parties Dances |
Students have in school parties to celebrate special occasions. They are planned with their teachers. Dances are planned by the PTO and Student Council with the assistance of volunteer parent chaperones. |
| School Programs and Celebrations | During the course of the year the school will plan special programs and liturgies to celebrate or commemorate religious feasts and civic observances. Parents are welcome to attend. |
| School Assemblies | The PTO sponsors and plans, in cooperation with the principal, several curriculum-related assemblies throughout the school year. |
| Parent Supervision Of Children outside Of Class Time |
If children accompany parents to an event/meeting held outside of the school day, children must remain with their parents to ensure supervision and safety. Children are not allowed to play in the gym, use playground equipment, or walk through the school halls, unsupervised. |
| Class Trips | Field trips are an enriching educational experience. They are planned by the classroom teacher as an extension of the classroom experience. Participation can be denied if students fail to meet academic or behavioral requirements. All field trips must have a clear and definite educational objective. Trips that are fundamentally social and recreational are not permitted.
Schedule of the trip (departure/return, and cost of admission and/or transportation) will be sent home. Each student must have a signed permission slip in order to participate. Telephone approval is not acceptable. Class trips can be canceled due to bad weather or other reasons at the discretion of the class teacher or principal. Transportation will be provided by chartered bus. Car pooling is not permitted. Since class field trips have a definite social and educational value, parents are discouraged from keeping their child away from such experiences. If parents do not wish their child to participate in a field trip, the child must remain at home on the day of the trip and they are marked absent from school. Parents and other adults, approved by the administration, act as chaperones for class field trips. Chaperones are expected to follow these guidelines:
Uniforms will be worn on all class trips (except those trips that require specific clothing). If that is the case, the required clothing will be specified in the permission slip. Participation in school activities, including graduation activities is a privilege, not a right. Students must maintain good conduct and passing grades to participate in the activity. A student may be prohibited from participation until such time as progress reports or teacher reports indicate an improvement in grades and/or conduct. |
