St. Joseph's School Weekly News
Information and News for Parents
February 4th, 2010
Re-Registration - As indicated in the letter mailed home in January, registration forms are due tomorrow, Friday, February 5th. As of today, we have received less than half of the possible returns. In order to properly plan for appropriate staff and materials, it is imperative that these forms are returned to school immediately.
Catholic Schools Week - To wrap up our week-long celebration, I want to thank Mrs. Kastberg and her team of volunteers for being at the school all week long. I want to thank Mrs. Kavanaugh and Mrs. Gusmano who coordinated our International Luncheon, and the army of parents who arrived to set up, serve, clean up (and, of course, eat!) and made the day so special.
Science Lab - The new tables for our Middle School Science Lab have arrived and, thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Dignam, they were assembled and placed in the classroom. Stop by and take a look!
Parish Mission - St. Joseph's will once again hold a Parish Mission. Details and schedule are included with this weeks' newsletter.
Haitian Relief - The Student Council Bake Sale held on Friday, January 29th raised $155.85. This will be sent to Catholic Relief Services.
60th Anniversary - I invite any parent who would like to be part of the 60th Anniversary Committee to contact the office. A meeting will be scheduled soon to plan a celebration in the spring.
Canned Food Drive - Our Canned Food Drive last week collected over 320 pounds of food. These items have been given to the Parish Food Pantry.
Mark Your Calendars, Teacher Appreciation Luncheon - The PTO Executive Board would like to hold the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon in May. We have chosen Friday, May 7th. To make it a special day this will be a half-day of school with dismissal at 11:30AM. After School will be available.
Report Cards - Second Quarter Report Cards will be sent home on Friday, February 5th. Please sign the envelope on the appropriate line and return the envelope to your child’s teacher. Thank you.
NOTE: Only grades 5 – 8 took Mid-Terms Exams.
St. Joseph's Night at Chili's - Thursday, February 11th is St. Joseph's Night at Chili's at Somers Corners. We hope all families can make it. And, to make it a little easier for families to bring their children, there will be no homework assigned that evening.
Also, if you cannot make it for dinner, you can go for lunch or stop by late for dessert.
Using a Chili's Gift Card is another way to help our parish and school. We have a limited number remaining. Order one from Jeanne Eliseo, jeanne_eliseo@hotmail.com.
Breakfast Program - The breakfast program will begin on Monday, February 8th. Since this is new to St. Joseph's we will start the first week with students who are currently enrolled in the Before School Program and those who are dropped off by car.
The program will start at 8AM. Students will eat in the cafeteria. Breakfast costs $1.40 and will include cereal, bagel or muffin; milk; fruit juice or fruit. Breakfast must be paid for and cannot be charged.
Graduation Photos - Eighth graders will have their graduation photos taken on Tuesday, February 9th at 8:30AM in the Auditorium. Photos will be taken with the students wearing a gown and holding the cap (brought by Davis Studio). Please make sure all students are healthy and on time that day.
