St. Joseph's School Weekly News
Information and News for Parents
December 9th, 2009
ITBS Results - Your child's ITBS results have been mailed home. If you haven't received them, please contact the school office.
As you are already aware, the tests were given in October. In previous years, the ITBS tests were administered in March. Therefore, the report you see is based on an October administration of the exam. In other words, students have been in school for only a few weeks and this will have an impact on the results. This is most noticeable in First Grade where students have never taken the exam before.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher for an appointment.
Scholastic Book Fair - This week was our Annual Book fair. Mrs. Patty Kiernan and her team setup on Monday and will staff the Fair from Monday afternoon through Thursday morning.
Mrs. Kiernan planned a wonderful “Family Night” for tonight, Wednesday, December 9th. Hope to see you there!
I want to thank Mrs. Kiernan and all the volunteers who helped make the Book Fair a fun and successful event!
Immaculate Conception - Students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade attended Mass on Tuesday, December 8th at 10:45AM to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
Change Bandits - Last month we held a special collection for the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital as part of WHUD's “Change Bandits” Fundraiser. One of our students, 8th Grader Alison Devaney, spent several weeks at Maria Fareri this summer and she spearheaded the collection. She was also interviewed on WHUD November 11th, where she announced that St. Joseph's raised over $500 to support the Children's Hospital.
Haunted Homes Contest - You may have seen another of our students in the news this fall. If you were perusing the November 25th edition of the PennySaver, you would have come across a picture of students chosen as Winners in the 17th Annual Haunted Homes Contest. 7th Grader Carly Corbett was one of the four winners chosen. Congratulations, Carly!
As you can see, our students make it a point to get involved in their community in many ways. If you have information on a student in our school that has done something special in our community, send a note to: STJOECF@GMAIL.COM.
Christmas Pageant - Our Annual School Christmas Pageant is on Tuesday evening, December 15th. The doors will open at 6:30PM. As always, the program will begin with the Experienced Members of our School Band playing seasonal music.
The band will be followed by the Pageant, led by Miss Racioppo. The festivities should conclude shortly after 8PM.
Students should dress in dark pants and a seasonally colorful shirt: red, green or white.
This is always a beautiful evening for our community as we celebrate the Christmas Season. All family members and friends are invited to join us.
Visit to Rosary Hill - As part of their annual Christmas plans, our Kindergarteners take a trip to Rosary Hill. This takes place in the morning of Tuesday, December 15th. Details have been sent home via backpacks.
