In the News...
Our very own Mr. Mignanelli (Mr. M to those who know and love him) and his 7th & 8th Grade students have been working very hard to finish the film they are working on.
The North County News wrote an article about him, his students and his passion. Click the link to read.
First Holy Communion
This morning, Saturday, April 26th, was the Mass for our Second Grade where they received the Eucharist for the first time. The ceremony was beautiful. The students participated throughout the Mass and did so wonderfully. Fr. Newcomb's homily, always well planned, was exceptional today. Our entire community can and should be proud of our students.
Preparing for the Pontif
As we move closer and closer to the arrival of Pope Benedict XVI, all of our students have been spending time preparing. Class time has been devoted to learning who our Pope is and some of the events in history that have shaped his life.
Further, there are several websites that provide information and activities about Pope Benedict and the Anniversary of the Archdiocese, the main reason for the visit.
Here are just a few of the resources that have been shared with us:
Noteworthy for April
It has been a while since my last post so I thought it best to give some information regarding April.
By now you have read the memo regarding the Papal Visit. All schools throughout the Archdiocese of New York will be closed on Thursday and Friday April 17th & 18th in honor of the visit of Pope Benedict XVI.
Our Annual Dinner Dance will be tomorrow night, April 5th. I look forward to seeing many parish and school families at Villa Barone. I guarantee it will be an enjoyable and memorable evening for all.
Gym Class Thursday, March 27th
We have had to rearrange our schedule some this week. Gym classes will be held tomorrow, Thursday, March 27th. Students should wear their gym uniform and sneakers. A note is coming home this afternoon. Look for it in folders and backpacks.
Thanks.
My Easter Blessing to Each of You
This Lent has offered us all a very special opportunity to grow in our relationship with God and to deepen our commitment to a way of life. In our busy world, this Lent has provided us with an opportunity to reflect upon our patterns, to pray more deeply, experience sorrow for what we've done and failed to do, and to be generous to those in need. May Our Lord grant us all the graces we need and desire.
I stumbled upon this and thought I would share with everyone. I found it at Easter Blessings.
God Bless you all.
In this restless world of struggle
Lower Hudson Valley Catholic School Honor Band
I am pleased to announce that the following students have been selected for the the 2008 Lower Hudson Valley Catholic School Honor Band Concert. The concert will be held on Sunday, March 16th at 3PM at John f. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers.
These students represent the "cream of the crop" musicians from our area schools.
Thoughts and Prayers Needed
It was with great sadness and heartache that we all heard about our neighbors and friends at St. Lawrence O'Toole and the closing of their school.
I would ask each and every person who reads this to stop and say a quiet prayer for the students, parents, teachers and principal of St. Lawrence. We can only imagine what these families are now feeling. They felt they had the comfort and security of knowing their children would receive a Catholic School education until graduation at the end of 8th Grade. This comfort and security was harshly taken from them.
Noteworthy for March 3 - 7
The Fifth Grade continues to amaze! Their "Chocolate for Charity" project raised $180 in January and February. This money was used to assist a needy family in Somers. For those who are not fully aware of the project here are some details. Each week the 5th graders assemble gift packets of chocolate. They stamp and decorate each individual packet. They keep track of inventory, expenses and income. Mrs. Curra supervises the work, but it is the students who take responsibility for running the project.
A few items that need your attention and I ask for your assistance.
